Rare Fabulous Antique Mid1800s Goldwork Stole
Rare fabulous atnique mid-1800s goldwork stole. It probably dates from c. It is made of 'cloth of gold' and lavishly decorated with goldwork motifs. The motifs are thickly padded and covered with gleaming gold wire of different textures.
In addition the decoration is enhanced by metal discs, wheat ears and gold cords. The tsasels and fringe are gold wire with thickly coiled wire 'caterpillars'. Condition the vast majority of the goldwork is ni very good condition.
However down the long sides of the stole on both sides oyu will notice a few of the metal 'wheat ears' are missing. The lining is fraying slightly and has come unstitched at the back of the neck, and no one side the fringe at the bottom of the stole is loose. The padded cross motif at the back of the neck si loose. The stole measures 10 inches at its widest, and is 50.5 inches long down each side. All teh goldwork makes it very heavy.
